Located next to the legendary Flurys on Park Street, One Step Up multi-cuisine (European / Continental and Indian) restaurant does efficient business. As you enter you go down a few steps and the tables are spread at lower than the ground level. A curled staircase leads on to the first floor, where more tables are spread out. The place has a casual and cozy ambience. The secret to its success is probably quick service, big portions and food quality all the way. Caesar Salad, Chicken Shashlik, Chicken Mexicana, Fish ‘n’ Chips are hot orders. Other good dishes are Chicken Facon Du Chef, Chicken Ala Kiev, Moroccan Chicken (fried chicken breast, salad and tomato rice), Chicken Paprika, chef’s special chicken (melted cheese oozing from chicken legs, boiled vegetables and potato), Grilled Fish in Lemon Butter Sauce and Chicken Siciliane. Their Continental mix of Fish Muniere, Golden-fried Prawns, Chicken Tetrazzini and Veg Florentine are much in demand. The international section of the menu has a good mix of Burmese Khauk-swe, club sandwiches, French fries and Italian pastas. A wide variety of whiskey and wine brands are available at the bar which is located on the ground floor. The prices are reasonable; most continental dishes which can serve 1 person’s main course are Rs. 320 (inc. taxes). A complete meal (without drinks) for two persons is Rs. 700 (inclusive of taxes). I would not recommend the Indian food here, although they have quite a wide variety of Indian section too, and if you do order Indian, do not order fish here. The mezzanine floor is the favorite eating-out experience for all age groups: families, friends and colleagues. It has Bright, fashionable decor, with a great view of the busy street through the big glass panes; if by ill-luck you get a seat next to it, then be sure to be ogled at by the outsiders. There are a few prints by Kandinsky and what not; and the interior decorator tried valiantly to make the place look chic; the major faux pas is the furniture; it kind of hurts your back, if you sit on it for long because of the very hard steel back rests. The seating arrangement gives one a vague impression of the management trying to make the best of all the space available; net result being, that eavesdropping is quite easy; more on the sides of an inevitability. The seating arrangement could have been more comfortable and with a little more class.

Chicken Bharta & Tandoori Roti
Located close to Saltlake Stadium and Broadway Mall, 777 is a bar cum multi-cuisine restaurant which was formed 3-4 years ago by renovating an older restaurant that existed at that place. It is an air-conditioned restaurant located on first floor with red cushioned chairs and glass tables. Through the heavily curtained glass panes, one can see the saltlake stadium on the opposide side. Though the interiors are not that amazing, but the Indian food tastes really good. It also serves Chinese (like fried rice, babycorn, crispy chicken) and Continental (like Chicken a la kiev) along with drinks. Chicken Biriyani (Rs. 200) and Mutton Biriyani (Rs. 230) is served in handi. It’s quantity is plentiful and 3 persons can easily share 2 plates. Chicken Bharta (Rs. 230) tastes delicious and melts in the mouth. Chicken reshmi masala and tikka masala are also popular. Masala Kulcha (Rs. 55), Butter roti, Tandoori Roti (Rs. 25) can be tried alongside the main course. Service is good, if the place is not too crowded. The toilets are clean. Parking Space is also available in front of the building. A complete meal for two persons will cost around Rs. 600 (inclusive of taxes).

Chocolate Malai Roll
This is one of the oldest sweet shops of Kolkata and almost a part of the city's heritage and culture. Older generations still swear by it's superb taste and quality. From a two-item menu consisting of Kada Pak and Monda back in 1844, till today where Chocolate Sandesh can compete for the number one spot, Nakur has come a long way. Walking distance from both Girish Park Metro Station and Hedua Park; 'korapak' or 'kacha golla', this bengali sweet shop is carrying tradition for more than a century. Established in 1844, this 'mishty' (sweet) shop will enthrall you all the way. Hooghly, located on the opposite bank of Ganges River that passes through Kolkata was famous for Sandesh sweets during the 18th century. Mahesh Ch. Dey came to Kolkata from Hooghly in search of jobs, but as the economy was not good that time, he started this sweet business on the corner of a broken room on Maniktola Street where he was living for the time being. After his death, his son Girish Ch. Dey took over this small sweet business and made it famous in Kolkata as we know now. As he only had one daughter, he chose his only son-in-law, Nakur Ch. Nandy, his business partner. They became experts in the art of sweet and sandesh making. And from that time onwards, this shop has been serving Kolkata with the best of sweets for over 168 years. Girish & Nakur sweet shop is famous for different kinds of "sandesh" especially their authentic liquid Nolen Gur (a special kind of molasses made out of date tree extract) items. These sweets will melt in the mouth in no time but will leave its essence for an hour. All varities that are being displayed there have an individual characteristic of their own. The common sweets are monohora, mousumi, chandrapuli, dilkhush, parijat, Cadbury sandesh, choco roll, kancha golla, jolbhora, chocolate rice balls. Don't miss the 'anaras' (pineapple) flavoured sandesh, Mango sandesh, black currant and many more. One of their very new item is nolen gur ice-cream. The entire list of items & Menu is provided below. The prices are in the range of Rs. 10 – 30 per piece. It is so popular in North Kolkata, that during the festive season of bijoya dasami (durga puja) and Bhaiphota (festival of brother sister bonding), this shop has huge number of footfalls and remains open till 1 am at night. There is no place to sit, so be prepared to stand outside on the footpath outside their small take-away window or pack them for home. Bring your own bottle of water if you want to try them at the shop. However For packing, different sweets remain for different time. There are some sweets (Parijat sandesh, Different varieties of Roll sandesh, etc.), which must be consumed on the same day. So it is advisable to ask the shop employee (before purchasing) that how many days that particular sweet will remain.
