Kimli (Golpark & Hindusthan Park)

Well, if you happen to be present in the Gariahat or Golpark region of South Kolkata and are looking for a place to dig into Chinese food then do visit Kimli. A few minutes’ walk from golpark, this Chinese Restaurant has a steady and loyal clientele, thanks to the quality of food it serves and the service they provide. The ambiance is cozy and comfortable. There's a terrace which is opened up in weekends because that's when most of the customers come. In summer evenings the terrace provides the perfect setting for a quite hearty dinner with the summer breeze playing a perfect host.

The interior

                           When it comes to food, kimli undoubtedly scores high with its excellent taste and quality. The menu is divided into various segments from soups to wantons. The soups are available in three sizes of small, medium and large. While a small bowl serves one, the medium is for two and the large bowl serves four. The chimney soup is one of the best in the city with loads of goodness in the form of chicken, lamb, prawn, mushrooms, egg and vegetables. It is quite filling and is the only soup that they serve in only medium and large bowl. The best thing I liked about the soup is the seasoning. I tried the 'lung fung' soup and it didn't need any additional seasoning of salt and pepper. And this happened for the first time that I had a soup which was perfectly seasoned, having the right balance of salt and pepper. The rice menu has many types of rice and also rice noodles like Chicken Cantonese Chowmein & Mixed Fried Rice.     

Lung fung Soup

The non-veg menu boasts of a wide variety of chicken, duck, lamb, crab, prawn and sea fish items. There's no separate menu for starters, instead some of the non-veg and veg items are available in dry format, which serves as starters. The specialty dish of kimli is the duck. Both the chili duck and roasted duck is the most sought after dish. Go for special chili duck which is fried in wine unlike the normal chili duck and it tastes awesome. There are other signature Chinese dishes like lamb in different types of sauce, crabs and prawn. The roasted duck and chicken are available on a 24 hour prior notice. There are a good number of fish items also and the choices of fishes are Bhetki and Pompfret. For vegetarians there is mushroom, baby corn and paneer. Popular dishes are Red Pepper Chilli Garlic Chicken, Drums Of Heaven, Kung Pao Chicken and Golden-fried Prawns. Special chili Duck

The price is very reasonable and pocket friendly, and this is one of the reason behind Kimli's popularity among college goers. They serve the food in 15 minutes from placing the order. A meal for two will cost around Rs. 500 approximately. The Menu is given below. A drawback of the place is that it’s small & you might just have to wait for a long time at dinner on crowded weekends. Though the overall experience was good, I think the lights were a bit too dim and it would be much attractive if they switch to brighter lights. So don't wait much and pay a visit to this place.
