Kolkata has many cafes where you can grab a cup of coffee anytime. Similarly the latest addition being the “Caramelle” (Le patisserie Cakewalk: A bakery specializing in French pastry) at Jhowtala Road in Ballygunge (near Syed Amir Ali Avenue crossing) which is a perfect gateway for today’s generation. The café aims to introduce a European-styled bistro culture to the city. The owner of the shop has put together two page beverages, three page vegetarian and five page non- vegetarian menu.

Caramelle Cafe Kolkata

The café has a welcoming feel to it with the smell of freshly-baked goodies dominating the place. An array of Japanese Paper Lanterns decking up the entire ceiling, wooden floor,  big French mirror on one side of the wall, different abstract paintings, the cushioned iron chairs with the marble-top tables and the glass façade overlooking the busy street of syed amir ali avenue makes this patisserie-cum-café look very interesting and inviting. Dainty furniture and open food display add a welcome sense of casualness while the open Kitchen adds a little excitement as guests can watch their food being prepared while they wait and enjoy the music which is being played in the background.

Crème Brulee

The menu looks promising and is quite an elaborative one.  We wanted to try the desserts. So we ordered a Crème Brulee which was quite tasty and some what like authentic French crème brulee with perfectly blow torched sugar on the top and once you break the top layer you get a delicious gooey caramel inside. It was heavenly. Along with that we also ordered a Caramelle special Hot Chocolate and Black Forest Cake with Mascarpone Cheese from the food display. Hot Chocolate was pretty normal like they serve in any other café. Frankly speaking I didn’t find any special about it and same for the black forest cake I didn’t find any distinctive taste of mascarpone. It pretty much tasted like normal black forest cake only. The Hazelnut Frappe is an ideal slushy coffee to enjoy when the temperature outside starts heating up.

Caramelle Special Hot Chocolate

They have a wide range of continental dishes like Grilled Fish in Lemon Butter Sauce with capers, Passport to Paradise, Coq au Vin, Mushroom and Swiss Cheese Burger, Seasoned Cheese Steak with a Paprika Cream apart from different types of beverages. Black Pepper Cheese cake, Red Velvet cupcake, Blue Berry Smoothie, & Swiss Cheese Burger are must have delicacy there. The food presentation was extra-ordinary. The prices are on the expensive side (Service charge set at 10% apart from the VAT). The delicious desserts and beverages set us back by around Rs. 450. I would come here again to try out their main course meals, while you guys pay a visit here for some French Dessert hunt. Bon Appétit!!
