Harvey’s World Cuisine (Kasba)

Harvey's World Cuisine Kasba South Kolkata
Harvey's Interiors
Though it is located at a very unusual place of Kasba at Nabapally bus stop just a km away from Ruby, Harvey’s has the right World Cuisine that Kolkata needs with a blend of North Indian dishes and an array of Continental fare. An extensive glass showcase displays a vast collection of imported wines just at the entrance to the restaurant on second floor. The interiors have venetian blinds, wooden finished floors, ceiling air conditioning systems, faux flowers, wide cozy white sofas and marble-top tables. Through the transparent glass façade one can view the Rashbehari – EM Bypass connector. A lavish buffet spread was neatly placed at the centre of the restaurant with each dish on top of induction heaters set at the correct temperature.

Flame and Grill is one of the finest restaurants serving amazing kebabs and yes of course a never-ending delicious buffet!! Flame and Grill is in the topmost floor of the hugely popular South City Mall, a perfect place to attract the crowd! The ambience of the restaurant gives you the rejuvenated feeling of getting ready to indulge yourself in the pool of kebabs and many more items. The entire decor has a dark and wooden look!! The restaurant can comfortably accommodate more than 50 persons and the entire atmosphere makes one feel composed and active simultaneously! The restaurant has an interesting work of art, also used as a partition! It stretches from the ceiling till the floor in the form of a grid with each square containing a bottle of spice, herbs or masala!! To talk about the sitting arrangement, the tables, which are low in height along with wooden long chairs accommodating 2 people atleast! The most interesting fact about the table is its attatched "hot wok" (personal grill chamber)!!

Situated near AJC Bose Road, at Woodburne Park, this Oriental restaurant specializes in South-East Asian (Japanese, Singaporean, Korean, Malaysian, Indonesian, Thai) cuisine. It mainly targets the sophisticated upper class of South Kolkata who would not mind to spend some extra to taste innovative food from the South-East Asian countries which are rarely available in stand-alone eateries (not 5-stars). The theme of the restaurant revolves around Chinese puzzles or Tangrams and gives the ambiance a funky feel.

HAKA is the ideal place for people who like to have a low-priced Chinese buffet meal. The food here has its own unique taste which is quite different from the Chinese Restaurants of Chinatown (Tangra). It is another restaurant of the Speciality Group, which are the owners of Mainland China. It also has a la carte menu, which has a few takers. The buffet menu has both good numbers of vegetarian and non-veg dishes. For a large group of persons over 10 or 15, it would be a good choice to go for buffet, where each one can have his / her food at their own choice of food from the buffet items, rather than to waste time in making a long list of orders going through the menu. The waiters are well mannered and if informed to them while placing an order, they even provide complimentary cakes and sing “Happy Birthday” songs for anyone who has a birthday. Alcohol and drinks are also available at fairly moderate price. Usually the non-veg buffet dinner menu, costing Rs. 350 (plus taxes) has more or less, the following items; however sometimes the dessert items are changed to some other:
Chicken Hakka Soup
Vegetable Coriander Thick Soup
Prawn Wafers
Kimchi
Hot Basil Cottage Cheese
Pickled Cucumber
Vegetable Dimsum
Crispy Vegetable Konjeenaro
Mixed Vegetables in a Chilli Soya
There Treasure
Vegetables in Hunan Sauce
Vegetable Hakka Noodles
Corn and Peas Fried Rice
Chicken Fried Wantons
Ginger Chilli Chicken

Chicken Fried Rice
Spicy Chicken with Cashew Nuts
Fish in Chilli Coriander Sauce
Chilli Mustard Shrimps
Kimchi, Hot Basil Cottage Cheese, Pickled Cucumber, Dimsum, Crispy Vegetable Konjeenaro, Mixed Vegetables in a Chilli Soya, There Treasure and other starters in Haka

House Special pastries
Brownie
Darsaan
Ice-cream (Chocolate, Vanilla, Strawberry) with Chocolate Sauce

Considering the price of the buffet, this is an excellent choice for food lovers who want to grab a quick & cheap, yet decent meal. The food / buffet meal here is not gourmet stuff but will certainly satiate average hunger pangs. Haka is also present in City Centre of Saltlake:

Homemade Special Potato chips
Square 405 possibly derives its name from Mani Square and since it’s the shop no. 405 of 4th floor of the Shopping Mall. As soon as you enter the restaurant, you will be captivated by its fascinating interiors and décor. Vibrant colors everywhere. When you sit at table, you will notice the various types of sauces placed on it and colorful paper sheets underneath the plates, each with a different quotation like “Believe in yourself”, “Forgive and Forget”, “If you are afraid of butter, use cream”, “Do not refuse to do something that you can do” and others. Sofas are comfy and soft. This being a new restaurant (which came into existence after Five Rivers restaurant shut down), the crowd is less as compared to other restaurants in Mani Square, and therefore you can expect to have a peaceful dinner with your family. Continental and North-Indian cuisine is served here. All dishes are decorated and presentation is very nice. The dishes that are worth to try are Homemade Special Potato chips – Rs. 80, Homemade giant Onion Rings (battered in special beer batter and deep fried to golden perfection) – Rs.80, Non-Veg Wanton (Served with Sweet Thai Chilly Sauce) –Rs. 180, Penne Prawn with a choice of sauces with toasted garlic bread (choices of chicken (Rs. 300) and meat (Rs. 320) instead of prawn are also available) – Rs. 350, Grilled Chicken with Lemon Butter Sauce & Mashed Potatoes (also available choices are Pepper Sauce / Mushroom sauce) – Rs. 280, Sautéed Mushroom on Toast (Served with Homemade Potato Wedges) – Rs. 120, Chicken Malai Kebab Platter  (Butter Rice with Bell Peppers, Four Pieces of Chicken Kebab Skewed, Daal Makhani, Raita, Chitney) – Rs. 380, Date Pancake with Icecream – Rs. 150. The Sandwich was really great in taste but Pasta was ordinary. The Cost of a complete meal for 2 persons is approximately Rs. 900 (inclusive of taxes). The Menu items were less, though the staff informed that new menu with a bigger list will be available soon and Buffet will also be introduced. Service is prompt and staff is very helpful. Surely pay a visit to try out its delectable continental food.

Sarson Starters & salads
Sarson, the brainchild of Amitabh Rai, serves classic Punjabi cuisine in the City of Joy. Sarson sprouted at the second floor of the South City Mall in 2010 and serves lip smacking Indian food in quite an upscale ambiance. Plush Indian-themed interiors, Punjabi to be precise, gold inlays, warm lighting and jhula seating. It operates from 12:30 PM TO 11:30 PM. The menu is quite optimistic and fancy and the wine list displays fancy vintage. One striking feature which makes it special is their unlimited supply of welcome drink (usually pineapple mint) along with crisp Papads (Popadams) which sets it apart. The food is predominantly North Indian, with a sprinkling of heritage pan-Indian delicacies like Kolkata Beckti, Patrani Machhi and Burrah Kebab. Enjoy piping hot Paranthas oiled with Desi Ghee and Butter, delicious Kebabs, a variety of Dals (lentils), Sarson ka Saag (Mustard Curry) and Makki ki Roti (Bread made of Corn), Biryani, Pulao, Raita, Amritsari Macchi (type Fish Fillet specialty from Amritsar), Jhingri Mehrunsina (Tandoori Prawns) and a fantastic choice of Indian breads like Romali Roti, Laccha Paranthas, Stuffed Paranthas, Amritsari Kulcha and like. There is not just Punjabi food at Sarson. You can also savour some flavours of Bengali cuisine though Punjabi fare is the highlight, definitely. Their signature dish Sarson ka Murgh unexpectedly comes in a regular dipping of a master sauce. Premium Indian Whiskeys like Blender’s Pride and Signature 30 ml comes at Rs. 190 and soda at Rs. 50. You would spend about Rs. 1500 (inc. taxes) for a meal of two inclusive of beverages and desserts. The way they serve the food and specially the Indian breads, they are fresh and warm for longer period of time. The lunch buffet is priced at Rs. 440, plus taxes and the dinner buffet costs Rs. 495, plus taxes for one person (dinner buffet cost comes to Rs. 587 adding all taxes). The buffet is priced at Rs. 265, plus taxes for kids below 8 years. The buffet has the following items:
South City Mall Kebabs
Sarson Kebabs
Zombie Pineapple mint drink, dakshini murg tikka, bhatti ka murg, mutton shikampuri, masala fish fry, chickn biriyani, subj ka gosht, stire fried fish, aloo pudinawala, paneer tikka, beet root ki tikka, aloo chana salad, hara moong salad, subj e sangam baked, aloo simla mirch, paneer methi malai, yellow dal tadka, polao, fresh green salad, mixed raita, kulcha, laccha paratha, mango kheer, malai chum chum, tiramisu, choco sandesh, chocolate ice-cream.
Sarson Biriyani
Sarson Main Course
As I had visited this place, on the occasion of a relative’s birthday, the chef made us a complimentary cake, made of only Sandesh, (picture shown) which was absolutely unique. The buffet is a great option for non-vegetarians only. Choices for vegetarians are quite limited though both are priced same. However, Sarson is a great choice for Punjabi food dining in Kolkata. It has place for about 92 people which makes it ideal for family and large group dining. It makes one wonder about the fine-dining expectations of the clientele.
