Located just opposite to RDB Big Cinemas main entrance of Sector V, this multi-cuisine food joint, Go Where has become one of the most favourite hangout destinations for Office, IT crowd and nearby college folks. Due to its cheap alcohol and average food price, this restaurant cum bar is crowded on most weekends and weekday evenings. Dimly lit with couches this joint has 2 sections. The inner section is well decorated and cozy compared to outer section. The music they play in the background is popular Bollywood movie tracks and it’s too loud to hear even your own voice. They allow smoking inside the restaurant, which I feel can be disturbing to some visitors. This lounge is surely not a place for family visits. The seating arrangement is better in the inner segment of the restaurant, whereas the front section is overcrowded due to small place and poor seating arrangement.

Perhaps Kobe Sizzlers is the only Restaurant in Kolkata which devotes to serving only Sizzlers apart from sandwiches and a few starters. Situated in the heart of City Center Salt Lake, Kobe Sizzlers is the true flavor of the very contemporary European grills and steaks. They have been the oldest Sizzler restaurant chain in India since it opened its door in Mumbai in 1975. They now have over 19 outlets in not only cities of India but abroad as well. Thick wooden tables, jute stringed chairs and modern abstract paintings on the wall make the décor. Interesting pieces of intricate wooden artwork separate each table from one another. There are cushioned long low benches on one side which maybe a bit uncomfortable for those requiring a back rest. The ambiance is pretty sophisticated.

After its first Salt Lake outlet near College More Sector 5, Azad Hind Dhaba has come up with a new branch at Globsyn Crystals building, Salt Lake Sector V. It’s a quite massive outlet spanned in 2 levels having capacity to accommodate 78 persons. Always crowded with regular office a goer of this area, this popular Punjabi Dhaba serves you till midnight (Till 3 a.m. at night during festive seasons of Durga Puja, Diwali & Christmas. This particular outlet is decorated after Bengal and Punjab rural arts (terracotta patachitra on the mud walls), with big chakras (painted cartwheels) and dim lights of Terracotta Lamps hanging from the bamboo rafters. The air conditioned restaurant makes you feel seated in a normal roadside dhaba by its amazing clay wall decoration and terracotta art work.

Le Coffee Crème is a newly opened Continental - Oriental café cum Hookah joint at the ground floor of a residential house opposite City Centre just beside Mehfil. The location is wonderful to appeal to the shopping crowd though it serves only Vegetarian dishes. The entrance is not right on the road but inside a pavement garage of the building. Right on entering, the small room decorated with stylish automobile photographs on colored wall papers with couches and small wooden tables can easily be mistaken for a waiting area to the real dining area. But it is actually just another room for serving guests like the other two interior ones: One lounge space to the left is neatly done up with pristine interiors, leather cushioned seating, fancy woodwork, Buddha statues, graphic wall paper, silk carpet, cute suspended bar counter. And another region for hookah smoking folks, which is straight ahead, having big LCD screen TV and wall sofas for cozy evenings.

Situated opposite to City Center (Salt Lake), right beside Le Coffee Crème, this branch of Mehfil specializes in serving fast foods like Kati Kebab Rolls, Biriyani, Kebabs, Tandoori items, apart from regular Mughlai dishes of Rezala, Korma, Chap, Kasha (both Chicken & Mutton). The shop is very small with seating arrangement of just 2 tables inside. However they have placed few chairs outside on the footpath to handle City Center crowds during weekend evenings! They make rolls and other dishes right in front of the customers which is visible through the glass panes. The Rolls have a price range of Rs. 25 – 100 and are pretty heavy & filling in comparison of evening snacks. They prepare using their kebabs very well for the rolls.

This is the second outlet of this Tibetan momo joint turned Chinese Restaurant after its immense popularity of Maidan outlet (Middleton Row – Sikkim House). Not to mention it’s pocket friendly prices in both the outlets. One could get fried or steamed momos (8 pcs served with homemade red chilli sauce & Soup) at Rs. 80 inc. taxes which I doubt any other AC restaurants would offer. The menu offers Original Nepali Thali & Thukpa and also Bhutanese dishes apart from the regular Chinese section which is available in every Chinese joint that crops up at every crossroad of Kolkata.

Located in the busy IT hub of Sector V, Salt Lake, Opium has a massive bar that reserves a wide selection of liquors. It’s the perfect place to relax and unwind after a hectic day at work. With Linkin Park, Bon Jovi, Jimi Hendrix and Bob Marley posters around and reasonable prices of drink, it is a favorite haunt for an evening out drinking with friends. The interior lights are dim and the black leather sofas are large and comfy. There is a large lcd screen that usually shows live matches on sports channels. Rock music plays in the background after 6 pm that sets up the mood for party revelers.

Feel like tucking into some Mughlai food? Only Alibaba is a good option. It’s a very small and simple restaurant; pretty much the ideal place to grab a quick & cheap meal with friends or colleagues in the busy IT sector. Only Alibaba was born on 24th September 2008. Like Alibaba who took on the combined might of 40 thieves, ONLY ALIBABA took on the might of the Mughalai food business in its very own food district of Park Circus in Kolkata. The discerning pallet of the people of Kolkata has given Only Alibaba a unique standing. Since the world has become health conscious, the oil, the basic ingredient of all cooking, used here is of the best quality and is refined oil only. No dalda and animal fat is used in the kitchen. The interiors are not that fancy. Just ordinary glass tables and metallic (steel) chairs with reddish colored interiors. There are wall plasters falling off at some places. There is no toilet facility, only wash-basin. Parking is a big problem in that busy location. Still the place can be very crowded sometimes because of its affordable and delicious good; and the food items especially the biriyani gets finished on most days! Biriyani and kebabs tastes good and is very popular. The chicken of gravy items was very hard. The service is not that good as they take a lot of time in serving order. Located close to Saltlake Stadium and Broadway Mall, 777 is a bar cum multi-cuisine restaurant which was formed 3-4 years ago by renovating an older restaurant that existed at that place. It is an air-conditioned restaurant located on first floor with red cushioned chairs and glass tables. Through the heavily curtained glass panes, one can see the saltlake stadium on the opposide side. Though the interiors are not that amazing, but the Indian food tastes really good. It also serves Chinese (like fried rice, babycorn, crispy chicken) and Continental (like Chicken a la kiev) along with drinks. Chicken Biriyani (Rs. 200) and Mutton Biriyani (Rs. 230) is served in handi. It’s quantity is plentiful and 3 persons can easily share 2 plates. Chicken Bharta (Rs. 230) tastes delicious and melts in the mouth. Chicken reshmi masala and tikka masala are also popular. Masala Kulcha (Rs. 55), Butter roti, Tandoori Roti (Rs. 25) can be tried alongside the main course. Service is good, if the place is not too crowded. The toilets are clean. Parking Space is also available in front of the building. A complete meal for two persons will cost around Rs. 600 (inclusive of taxes).

Situated in the posh FD block, which is now mostly famous for the innovative Durga puja pandals that they design each year, this 160-seater air-conditioned bar-cum-restaurant, divided in 2 floors, is quite popular in Saltlake. Though the interior décor is ordinary with round wooden tables without table cloth and black cushioned metallic chairs, with dim lighting and no fancy curtains even, still this place becomes very crowded on weekends and evening time. The main reasons for this are because the restaurant is located in close proximity to both City Centre and the IT hub of Sector V, it serves delicious Chinese fare & Thai specialties and for possessing a liquor license so that is serves drinks to commoners at a pretty moderate rate. Chicken Pakora (Rs. 160 - 10 pcs) is a nice starter along with drinks. The foods which one must give a try are Cantonese Noodles, Shrimp Wanton Soup, Boneless Chili Garlic Chicken, American Chop Suey, Golden-fried Prawns and Kung Pao Chicken. Families troop into the ground floor section, while the first floor turns into a noisy bar: liquor, Prawn Chips, chili pork and Chili Chicken do the rounds. Parking Space is easy to find. Toilet may not be very clean at busy hours, but has normal facilities. The average food price for a group of three persons is Rs. 500- 600 including taxes. Beer costs around Rs. 150 (without taxes) and Indian Whiskeys in the range of Rs. 110-200. Overall this is a nice hangout place for a group of friends or even for family dining.
