City Centre 2 (Rajarhat) - Blue Nile

City Centre 2, New Town is a tempting medley of shopping, dining, fun and entertainment with its array of shops, superb restaurants, hotel and movie theatres…a veritable paradise for the fun loving family. There are many restaurants like Blue Nile, Camelia Restaurant, Gamma Lounge, Durbari, Afraa & others. I went to Blue Nile recently but will surely try out the others soon.

Blue Nile Restaurant Kolkata
Though from the name Blue Nile, you may think that Egyptian food is served here, but it is not so. It is only because of the fact that the interior of this place has an Egyptian theme with extensive paintings of Pharaoh & their culture, Gods & Goddesses, obelisks, hieroglyphics, pyramids, slaves & workers doing farming or other appointed tasks and ancient related things of Egyptian civilization. Even the sofas and chairs have some form of Egyptian Queen, Cleopatra or The Sphinx. There is a bar on the far side with a large Egyptian painting in the front and wine & scotch bottles on either side as opposed to normal kinds of bars. The lighting is perfect giving the effects of a museum sort of place. There are continental, Chinese, Indian dishes present in the menu which again has Egyptian drawings in the background. The food is really good here especially the continental dishes like Fish Steak, Mutton Saslik, Princess Chicken which all comes with a choice of pasta or peas rice, boiled vegetables & French fries. The starters like Salt & pepper American corn, Murgh Kasturi kabab, mutton sliced are equally scrumptious. The desserts are normal and have a few options from ice-cream, caramel custard and others. The service is quite fast & quantity of a starter or side dish of main course can serve 4 persons. The price for 2 persons is a maximum of Rs. 850- 900 including taxes without any hard drinks. This place maybe new and located at a Mall that is far away from main Kolkata region, but it’s a place worth visiting, because the food over here is cooked in a different technique apart from other places and can really stun anyone who visits here for the first time. So I would definitely ask you to check it out if you ever pass through VIP Road or Rajarhat.

PARK STREET - BAR-B-Q

Park Street remains Kolkata's foremost dining district, with many restaurants and pubs. It is often known as "Food Street" and "The Street that Never Sleeps". Park Street has been the recreation zone for Kolkata people since the British era. However, in the last 20 years, many new restaurants, malls, 5-star hotels and nightclubs have opened in other areas of the city and Park Street has lost much of its earlier attraction as being the numero uno entertainment hub of Kolkata. However, it is still one of the prime commercial and entertainment zones of the city. Park Street is traditionally decorated with lights on Christmas Day and New Year's Eve.
We will discuss the most happening places, night life and disco / lounge bars at some later posts. However now I move on with providing some information about the places that I have recently gone to in Park Street.

One of the oldest restaurants is BAR-B-Q. Its interiors and ambience gives you a feeling about the heritage and culture of Kolkata. They make their Chinese food according to their own style. For eg., I found tomato and mushroom in a Bar-b-q special fried rice, and cashew nuts in a chicken Kong pao dish (Picture provided in the left side). The prices were moderate ranging from Rs 120 - 130 for rice, noodles type items. And all chicken side dishes were Rs. 220. There are many chicken, fish, prawn items that can be found on the menu. The quantity for each rice and chicken dish is however more than sufficient for two persons. And you could find Chinese
Horoscope on the tables ;P .Adjacent to this restaurant is its Chinese counterpart  called Flavours Of China.

The Sonnet - DD Block Saltlake (Near City Centre)

The Sonnet Kolkata

Sonnet RestaurantThe Sonnet is a wonderful 4-star hotel located on DD block of Saltlake, near City Centre, which opened a year ago. It provides many facilities like business centre, car service, Wi-Fi, 24 hour coffee shop, Jacuzzi pool, gym, banquet hall, parking space and others. It has a stylish poolside lounge called ORION with dance floor & DJ, perfect for an intimate party. The bar called, UNWINE, offers an impeccable selection of liquors, wines & cocktails. AURA is the restaurant which has a lavish ambience and serves Indian, continental & Oriental cuisines. The central air conditioning provides moderate temperature; the interiors are royally decorated with perfect lighting, plush sofas, comfy chairs, marble tables and expensive cutlery. Waiters are well-dressed & friendly. The dinner buffet is really excellent especially the veg & chicken kebabs and Vetki Fish fries. There is also biriyani, mutton and chowmein apart from various kinds of salads. The desserts are yummy. The per head cost is Rs. 700 (including taxes) on a weekend, however its lesser on weekdays. The no. of items in the buffet should be increased if they want to compete with other star hotels, though I wouldn’t mind if the price becomes a bit higher. More restaurants should also be opened alongside. Certainly check out their website for more info: http://www.thesonnet.com/
