This massive restaurant, which has
been like a heritage eatery in Kolkata,
extended over two floors post-renovation, has been drawing most of the
shoppers, office crowd, tourists and visitors in and around New Market (Esplanade) for the past many
decades. It has always been a target for college goers because of its location
and economic meal. Not many know that Aminia
came into the being on the day of India's independence and soon became the
byword for Mughlai khana.
As all know that Kolkata was well known for Football; decades ago, as soon as the league matches got over in the evening, the players and supporters of celebrated clubs like Mohun Bagan, East Bengal and Mohammedan Sporting would come straight here from nearby Maidan grounds. A meal at Aminia was just what they needed after a heady match. Presently, Aminia has two sections; the normal section with lower prices is just as you enter through the main door on ground floor and the air-conditioned section which is located on first floor and more preferable to the sophisticated crowd. The normal section has regular white tables with 6 metallic chairs and you wouldn’t be surprised to see table sharing between consumers. There are personal or family cubicles present in Aminia, which is surrounded by curtains to give full privacy to a group from other visitors and restaurant staff.

The biriyani quantity is less as
compared to Shiraz or Araslan. Though the waiters are hardly always available
to the customers, the service is speedy, with food, especially Biriyani &
Chaap being served in less than 10-15 mins of placing order. It is advisable to
order mineral water for people who are concerned with hygiene. It has a take
away counter too.
It
is known that MF Hussain was reportedly 'fida' over their food and always had two
plates of the Aminia Special Curry. And every time Sachin Tendulkar is in town,
a special plate of pasinda goes to him. It’s the secret recipe that makes the Aminia biryani so special, making
customers return over the years. This old eatery and its foods match with every
mood of the city; surely pay a visit here, if you still haven’t! |

We had horrible experience. The waiter tried to pass Roti from another table to us. Upon protest, he pretended to change it and brought the same Roti back. If this is what they can do for just a cheap Roti, imagine what they are doing with Non-Veg items. Suggest you avoid this place.
ReplyDeleteGood that I read your comment. Couple of days ago I went to recently opened Aminia in Fariapukur, and food was horrible there too. Roomali roti was soaked in dalda probably, as it did not have ghee smell and first of all this roti should be as it is, not covered with any greasy thing. Chicken Rezala was with tasteless thick curry with cold chicken piece inside. I asked them to heat it, then could eat.
ReplyDeleteyesterday on 1st jan,2017 we went there and it was a worst ever experience for us.first there was lack of availability of desired items,price was too high and quality of food(mutton handi masala) was horrible.Not such taste and satisfaction as per that high price level.pls pls don't visit at Aminia(esplanade)
