Located just opposite to the Inox side entrance of the boisterous City Centre, you just need to walk through the gigantic hallway of Gorkha Bhawan to reach Blue Poppy. This is the second outlet of this Tibetan momo joint turned Chinese Restaurant after its immense popularity of Maidan outlet (Middleton Row – Sikkim House). Not to mention it’s pocket friendly prices in both the outlets. One could get fried or steamed momos (8 pcs served with homemade red chilli sauce & Soup) at Rs. 80 inc. taxes which I doubt any other AC restaurants would offer. The menu offers Original Nepali Thali & Thukpa and also Bhutanese dishes apart from the regular Chinese section which is available in every Chinese joint that crops up at every crossroad of Kolkata.

The Bhutanese Ema Dasi or Q Dasi is chilly cheese or potato in cheese which comes with a combination of sharp yak cheese. Nepali food like Gundruk - the dry fermented rye greens boiled in a soup, Kinema - fermented soyabeans in gravy and the Nepali style pork curry in coriander flavoured thin sauce available here are also quite authentic. Do not forget to try out the mind blowing pork dishes. Shapta is the Tibetan version of Chilli Pork. Phalay comes stuffed with minced vegetables and is served deep-fried. Check out their menu given below. The interiors are very simple with a few tables, only 5 or 6; so it usually gets crowded most times. Although the waiters are all well-mannered, the service could have been better as most times they don’t serve food on each plate on their own and do not serve water glasses unless one asks for it.
