Though it is located at a very unusual place of Kasba at Nabapally bus stop just a km away from Ruby, Harvey’s has the right World Cuisine that Kolkata needs with a blend of North Indian dishes and an array of Continental fare. An extensive glass showcase displays a vast collection of imported wines just at the entrance to the restaurant on second floor. The interiors have venetian blinds, wooden finished floors, ceiling air conditioning systems, faux flowers, wide cozy white sofas and marble-top tables. Through the transparent glass façade one can view the Rashbehari – EM Bypass connector. A lavish buffet spread was neatly placed at the centre of the restaurant with each dish on top of induction heaters set at the correct temperature.

The A la carte menu (provided below) is quite exciting: roasts and steaks, Beer Batter Calamari, Fire Cracker Salmon, Grilled Kolkata Beckti, Tandoori Jhinga, Lashuni Kebab and Mutton Burrah Kebab. The bar menu too has a lot of foreign liquors and European wines on the list to choose from. The cost for two persons (without alcohol) would be approximately Rs. 900.

However if you would like to try a lot of items, I would suggest you to try out the Buffet which is priced at Rs. 420 (inc. taxes) on weekdays and Rs. 520 (inc. taxes) on weekends and has quite an surprising number of kebabs and main course items. They serve a welcome drink which is most likely sweet lime soda. They also serve the starters on the table itself which consists of Fish Tikka, Chicken Reshmi Kebab, Chicken Pahari Kebab, Chicken Buffalo Wings, and Mutton Sheekh Kebab on endless serving.

After so many delicious starters one would normally not be able to move on to main course. But you would then most definitely miss out on the mouth watering continental & Italian dishes. The main course items on the buffet are Cream of Chicken Soup, Chicken Salads, Chicken Casser, Fish in Capotes Sauce, Kadhai Mutton, Methi Murgh, Razma Paneer, Dal Fry, Mutter Paneer, Spinach Lasagna, and Spaghetti. After finishing such a heavy meal with all these items, the desserts (mostly Indian and few in number) will uplift your mood – Baked Mihidana, Shahi Tukra, Baked Rosogolla, Ice Cream and Caramel Custard.

Now coming to the plus and minus of Harvey’s: The service was very slow. They took almost half an hour to serve the starters. The Reshmi kebab was moist and well marinated with herbs & spices. The fish tikka served was genuine Kolkata Bhetki (Barramundi) and so soft that it melted in the mouth. The mutton sheekh was well grinded & had the perfect blend of spices. The meat of Buffalo wings was a bit over fried. The methi murgh had an overdose of butter yet had tender pieces of meat. The lasagna having pasta sheets, paneer, cheese, cream, spinach and corn kernals tasted rich and creamy. The kadhai mutton war ordinary and had dry pieces most of which were bones. The baked desserts were good though the baked rosogolla was too sweet! Caramel Custard was too smooth with a perfect balance of sweetness. However the shahi tukda’s bread was fried too much that it was bit oily even after soaking it in kheer and dry fruit sauce. There could have included some brownies / pastries or continental desserts like tarts / mousse and at least more than one choice of ice creams. Overall it was a nice experience!
